Summer Intensive

A Summer Intensive for Children, The School of Musical Fish, was held at Spirit in the Desert Retreat in Carefree, Arizona from June 17th through June 20th, 2024
The 2024 Jubilate Conservatory of Music Summer Intensive was a wonderful success for everyone involved. Thirty students enrolled to work at a very fast pace, learning dialogue, blocking, and music which included a student string ensemble and band consisting of students four to eleven years old. The colorful set of The School of Musical Fish was constructed by students, teachers, and parents. Although the intensive was focused on fun, students learned a great deal in only three days, culminating in a beautiful performance on the fourth day of class.
The purpose of this intense course was to teach students the benefits of a focused effort and personal practice. The secondary purpose of the intensive was to provide students with an experience of music immersion. Five teachers and one teaching assistant were involved in this complex children’s musical set under the sea. Students worked together to help each other memorize lines as well as friendships. It was a beautifully coordinated effort with honest intention on the part of everyone participating. All who attended interacted in a positive way and created a musical performance complete with its own orchestra.
Our Summer Intensive was underwritten through a generous donation by Kiwanis of Carefree, AZ. Kiwanis has continued to be a vital support to our students and to the growth of JCM. In addition, seven children were given scholarships through Jubilate Conservatory of Music. They would not otherwise have been able to attend.
Close to fifty people came to our performance and to support the young musicians. Our purpose was for all participants to come together as a community. The result was a wonderful experience for everyone!
