“The School of Musical Fish”, a musical for children, will be held as a Summer Intensive at Spirit of the Desert Retreat in Carefree, Arizona, June 17th through 20th. The intensive is sponsored by Kiwanis of Carefree for students attending Jubilate Conservatory of Music. The intensive will include beginning percussion class, beginning recorder class, chorus and singing all levels and ages, strings, acting, set construction, and costuming, and is open to all children in the community ages six through seventeen.

Narrated by a lobster, the pitfalls of self-centered thinking are explored in this story which takes place at the bottom of the sea. Students will sing, act, and provide their own orchestra in this fast-track production. Jubilate Conservatory instructors Laya Field, Sonja Prychitko, Harrison Cole, Bella Schwerin, and Cordi DeDecker will come together for four mornings to create a musical performance in the afternoon on Thursday, June 20th from 2:00-3:00pm.

Violin, viola, and cello students interested in being a part of the orchestra must be able to read music and play notes on their instrument in first position. Parent volunteers, helping with setup, breakdown, and room monitoring, are an important aspect of the intensive. In the case of children who are still learning to focus, parents will be asked to remain nearby during the course. A sign-up sheet for parent volunteering will be available for parents at registration.

The performance is open to the public! Donations will be asked at the door with a suggested donation of $2.00 per child (no charge for children under three) and $5.00 per adult. Larger tax-deductible donations will also be accepted at the door which will go to support the free Saturday Music Classes offered to children in the community by Jubilate Conservatory of Music throughout the year and are very much appreciated.
